I've found the Roomba 580 to be the best value of the Roomba line of vacuum cleaning robots. With all the features you've come to expect from the experts at iRobot, like anti-tangle technology (to keep it from getting stuck on cords and tassels) and a sensor to avoid stairs and other drop-offs, the Roomba 580 is intelligent in both design and function. New Virtual Wall Lighthouses (3 are included) confine it to one room until the entire floor is cleaned before allowing the Roomba 580 to move to the next room. Better still, the 580 can clean up to four separate rooms on a single charge. The iRobot Roomba 580 has a sleek black design. You can even change its appearance with the included silver faceplate. With a package weight of just 12.5 pounds, you'll wonder how such a compact piece of technology can clean so thoroughly. Packaged in the 20"x17.5"x5.5" box, along with the Roomba 580, are 4 replacement Beater brushes, 4 replacement Bristle brushes, 3 replacement Sidebrushes, and 7 replacement filters, all of which make this particular Roomba a true value. This model also comes equipped with a unique Wireless Command Center, which lets you control, steer, and even program your Roomba 580. iRobot offers a one-year limited warranty on this product. You can also order (at additional cost) any other accessories you might need, from replacement filters (which are great at filtering dust and allergens from your floors) to additional Virtual Walls. Quite frankly, though, the Roomba 580 is so packed with extras you're likely to be surprised at how long you can go before needing to order a replacement anything. Pros: Whether you are home or away, the iRobot Roomba 580 can be preset with up to seven cleaning times per week. That means you'll never again be embarrassed by the state of your hardwood floors, rugs or carpets when company comes to call. As one of the latest generation Roomba products, the 580 is as innovative as it is reliable. Its bagless bin is a breeze to empty, and the Roomba 580 returns to its base to charge between cleanings. Plus, its new Spot Clean features makes quick work of spills and more concentrated messes. My favorite thing about the Roomba 580, though, is its ability to clean under and around furniture that no upright vacuum could ever tackle. Cons: Each Virtual Wall Lighthouse requires 2C batteries, which are not included. While nobody likes having to replace batteries, it’s a better option than having to plug them in. The fact that they are battery powered means that you can position them wherever you like without having to have a power outlet nearby. The brushes do need occasional cleaning, but the Roomba 580 comes with a brush cleaning tool to make it a snap. Aside from those two minor "cons", the Roomba 580 is a dream come true. The iRobot Roomba 580 Vacuum Cleaning Robot is a lot like having a maid that you never see, and let's face it, all of us could use a maid from time to time.
